As the highest vantage point in Singapore’s trendy shopping district, the Ion Orchard complex’s award-winning architecture, high street fashion and contemporary multimedia art make it one of the city’s popular destinations. Taking advantage of its sweeping height, the center’s 56th floor was dedicated to an observation deck experience entitled Ion Sky. Initially commissioned only to provide the high-tech digital Tellscope™, gsmprjct° was soon appointed as designer of the entire experience, from the lift lobby in the mall to the observation deck.
Drawing inspiration from Singapore’s distinct cloud patterns, gsmprjct° chose to take visitors to the skies using cloud-themed graphics, audio-visuals and projections. From the moment visitors enter the lift lobby, a 65-inch display cloud-themed video accompanied by cloud graphics and ceiling projections set the tone. Upon exiting the lift, graphics on the glass windows give visitors the impression that they are walking through clouds as they make their way up to the observation deck, while poetic cloud-themed quotes add to the dream-like quality of the experience.
At the top of the deck, the breath-taking view is enhanced by the observatory’s high-tech Tellscope™, that gives a closer look of the city in real-time, or as it was on a sunnier day, at night or at an another era. With a simple touch, visitors can also find out more about the historical landmarks and points of interest indicated on the display. The result is a modern, immersive experience that ties in seamlessly with Ion’s image as a contemporary destination.
