Since the 17th century, numerous Irish immigrants settled in Quebec. Through time, they have come to occupy an important place on social, cultural, political and economic levels of Quebec’s society, and had a great influence on its culture. This exhibition, developed in collaboration with the McCord Museum of Canadian History is a celebration of the Irish heritage.

We were given the mandate to present historical objects and images in a contemporary and technological manner. We opted for a clean and light design in which the graphic concept, reinterpreting key elements of Irish culture, used crisp and contemporary colours to enhance and present the content. Throughout the space, installations present iconic people, places and events that influenced Ireland and Quebec common history.

True to Ireland and Quebec common tradition of storytelling, visitors are invited to sit in Biography booths to listen to the stories of people whose life are true representations of both nation shared history. Some are well know, some not so well known. Around the booths, objects of everyday life are displayed.

Story Stations, in the shape of large graphic platforms, present three key settling places of Irish immigration in Quebec. Around them, subjects and artefacts are displayed, underlining the influence of Irish settlers on their environment. Interactive displays allow further exploration on the subject.
